CBM & container fit calculator

Enter the carton dimensions and quantity to get total volume (CBM) and a rough idea of how it fits a 20GP, 40GP or 40HQ container.

These calculators run entirely in your browser, give indicative figures only, and never store your data. Always confirm the exact result on a live quote.

How this calculator works

  1. Volume per carton is length × width × height in centimetres, converted to cubic metres.
  2. Total CBM is that volume multiplied by the carton count — the figure an LCL quote is priced on.
  3. Container fit compares the total against a container's nominal capacity. Real usable space is lower: carton shape, pallets and weight limits all cost volume.

Questions about the result

Does the CBM I get here match what the carrier will charge?

It is the same arithmetic, but a carrier measures the cargo as delivered — pallets, over-packing and irregular cartons add volume. Treat the figure as the number to put in an enquiry, not the invoice.

When does a shipment stop being LCL and become worth a full container?

There is no fixed threshold. LCL is priced on volume, or on weight where the cargo is dense (weight or measure, whichever is higher), and FCL per box, so the crossover depends on the lane and the current rates — ask for both on the same enquiry and compare.

Do I need the weight as well?

Yes, for the quote. LCL is charged on volume or weight, whichever gives the higher figure, and road legs, terminals and container weight limits are governed by weight, so a quote needs both.
